This performance featured the sounds of Gamelan Gong Kebyar from Bali, along with classical and modern music of Java. The group has been performing in Arizona since 1989, involving Tucsonans of various ages, musical backgrounds, cultures and walks of life.

Two of director Matt Finstrom's compositions included in this special performance were Swara Manis (Sweet Sound) which won an Arizona Composer's Forum award in 1991, and Kembang Wuluh (Bamboo Flower) which was performed most recently at the Grand Finale of the 2008 All Souls Procession, accompanying the burning of the urn & sky acrobatics by renowned Tucson fire-dancing group Flam Chen.

All Souls Procession Grand Finale

Fine Stream Gamelan will be performing Matt Finstrom's new music piece "Kembang Wuluh" for Balinese Gamelan. This piece was written specifically for Tucson's All Souls Procession Grand Finale and is dedicated to Rolf Jordahl, one of the founding members of Fine Stream Gamelan. Rolf passed away while celebrating Dia de los Muertos in Mexico back in 2001.

The performance will be accompanying the Flam Chen Pyrotechnic Theatre Company during the grand finale of the All Souls Procession. The procession begins at dusk at the corner of 4th Ave. and University Blvd. and will process to the Franklin Street Docks. World Music Day at the University of Arizona

The School of Music Ethnomusicology program is pleased to present a concert of World Music featuring Asian traditions with performances by the Summer Thunder Chinese Music Ensemble, Sruti Music of India, and the Fine Stream Gamelan performing music of Bali with dance by Flam Chen. Fine Stream Gamelan will be performing a 30 minute version of Matt Finstrom's new music piece "Kembang Wuluh", written for Balinese Gamelan. 7:30PM. Free Admission.

Indonesian Art Show & Sale featuring puppets, percussion & pillowcases, toys, textiles & tablecloths, masks molds & music. Fine Stream Gamelan will be performing Matt Finstrom's new music piece "Kembang Wuluh", written for Balinese Gamelan. We will perform two 60 minute sets. First set begins at 1:00PM, second set is at 3:00PM. Free Admission.
